After being anxious about getting a job I managed to end up with two very good offers.  One in a very big company doing much the same job I'd been doing before but being brought in as a pretty senior part of the team and with expectations I'd be bringing that experience to a team to help it perform.  The other role was to manage a team of project managers.  Smaller company, less money, less future possibilities (within that company).  And so I went with the bigger company.  First time I've had a choice like that so it was my first time having to really think about opportunity cost.  I do lose something career wise by not taking the other role.  My big bet is that I gain a lot more than I lose by starting at this level but starting in a bigger company.

 

In the phone call where I confirmed with HR that I'd take their job I also was asked what I'd like my email address to be (I gave her a choice of 2) and whether I'd like a Mac or PC OS on my laptop when I start.  Good start!

 

Have a job, start in 10 days.  Here goes!

I've been a long time between blog entries recently.  Not because nothing's been happening, to the contrary quite a lot has been happening but I've partly gotten out of the habit and partly because some of the stuff happening wasn't good I didn't feel like writing about it.  So, here's where we are:

Roof is fixed

Have a new oven so able to cook properly for the first time.

Living room/Kitchen is painted, holes filled in, mould gotten off walls.  New curtains bought to complete the transition.

Married a month, can honestly say that the first month was more difficult than expected.

 

Some promising developments on the "getting a job" front.  Market is way slower than it used to be though.

 

And I got my Ravelry invitation today so I've organised my stash etc. which felt nice.

 

Upcoming, getting a job, going to Mullingar, try to sort out J's PPS and finish Lorraine's socks.

well, since I've been back I've been pretty terrible at blogging.  Sporadic Web access and more important things to do with that access when I've had it is chiefly to blame because it's not like stuff hasn't been happening.

Summary:

came home, stayed in D&H's for a couple of days, got key to house, house not in good shape as tenant broke stuff and left mould on walls, went to Cork for a few days for my family to meet my husband before he became my husband, back to Dublin, fix part of house so now livable in, organise wedding reception, meeting for wedding in registry office prior to the event, buy dress and suit, sort flowers, get married, had a lovely day, husband got his residency permit so no immediate risk of deportation (bit of a relief that one), now painting house, ordering broadband and

 

LOOKING FOR A JOB....

 

sigh!  All good things must come to an end of course and one of those is my life of leisure...

In my house now, getting it vaguely clean and shipshape after the shock and horror of finding it the way the tenant left it.  I will never again let a house of mine.  Even with 2 of us working on it it's slow going.  Most surfaces are now clean but we still have to get all the mould off the walls and now it appears that there's a problem with the matress from the continuous smell we can't get rid of.  Don't know how to fix the tap in the kitchen and can't get a replacement door for the oven as of yet...

 

Minor panic this morning when the heating stopped working, got "The Gas Man" to call out, their guy fixed it in less than 2 minutes.  Not bad for 70 quid...

 

In good news though, we both now have clothes to get married in, met the translator and all is good for the meeting on Thursday with the registry office.  Meeting the girl about the flowers tomorrow evening.  Need to sort the restaurant next...tomorrow

rang the estate agents to find out when I could go collect my keys.  They don't have them yet so I'm sitting here, not able to continue with much of anything as I need to find out what the last people have done re: gas and Esb before I go haring off to set up accounts etc.

well, all thanks to Lorraine and H, have dress (which is a skirt and top), have shoes, have fancy bits for my hair.  And all in less than 6 hours.  Pretty good going for a wedding dress really.
